Every March marks Women’s History Month in the United States. Once a week-long event, Congress passed a resolution in 1987 designating the entire month of March as Women’s History Month. The theme this year is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.”

You may regularly observe the event at your organization, or you may be totally new at commemorating it. Either way, we’re bringing you some solid ideas for celebrating Women’s History Month in this issue of PromoPro Daily. You can implement these suggestions no matter the size of your team. The goal is to honor the achievements of women and pave the way for women’s success in the future. Read on for some ideas from the Thriver blog.

Host an allyship seminar. Your team members may not understand how they can be allies to their women colleagues. The post suggests that rather than focusing on the past, mark Women’s History Month by focusing on how to create a better future for women. An allyship seminar can help your company’s employees understand how they can authentically support women at work. When you approach the topic thoughtfully, you can create rich learning opportunities for everyone involved.

Kick off a women’s trivia event. This can be a fun bonding event, whether your team does it in person or virtually. The post suggests highlighting prominent figures, poignant stories and all the events that deserve recognition.

Commit to making a meaningful difference. Seminars and team events are great ways to celebrate Women’s History Month at work. However, it’s important to go beyond one-off events. How can you do this? The post recommends asking the women at your organization to submit an anonymous survey that unearths the areas where they need more support.

Buy from women-owned businesses. During Women’s History Month, be intentional about buying from women-led or women-owned companies. Whether you are looking for a vendor or supplier or you’re simply taking your team out to lunch, look for women-owned businesses.

Making a point to commemorate Women’s History Month at work can bring many benefits. Whether you choose to host a lunch and learn, publicly celebrate your organization’s women leaders or commemorate the occasion in another way, you can help bring awareness to women’s achievements and highlight the importance of a diverse workforce.
