As a leader, your mindset influences everything. It impacts how you guide your team, how you handle opportunities, how you make decisions, and ultimately, how much success you achieve. There are many elements to a successful leadership mindset, and even if you’ve led a team for years, there are ways you can capitalize on what you’re doing well.

Lolly Daskal, a renowned leadership coach and consultant, says that staying aware of how you approach challenges and solve problems – as well as your overall outlook on your role as a leader – can significantly impact your effectiveness. That’s why it’s so important to embrace a leadership mindset.

In this issue of PromoPro Daily, we outline Daskal’s thoughts on the leadership mindsets that can help you succeed.

1. A growth mindset. Leaders with a growth mindset want to learn and grow. They know there’s always an area to improve, and they stay open to getting feedback from others. Daskal says a growth mindset is the belief that abilities and skills can be developed and improved through effort and learning. To embrace this mindset, be willing to try new things – even if you’re afraid. If things don’t work out, use what you learn and try again.

2. A solutions-focused mindset. When you cultivate this kind of mindset, you believe that no problem is unsolvable and no challenge is insurmountable. Daskal says these kinds of leaders are proactive and resourceful. They strive to find solutions and get results. Rather than being sidetracked by setbacks, they’re resilient and adaptable.

3. A positive and optimistic mindset. According to Daskal, leaders with this mindset believe the future can be better than the present and that challenges can be opportunities for growth and success. These leaders tend to look on the bright side and display optimism for their team members, even when the going gets tough.

Leaders need the right mindset. The great thing about mindset is that you can always shift it. If you notice you’re faltering in some area, whether it’s negative thinking or being afraid to take risks, be intentional about adjusting how you think about these situations. Always go for growth, believe that challenges can be overcome and kick negativity to the curb. When you work to cultivate the mindsets above, you position yourself for success and happiness.
