It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s an…unidentified flying object? Lately, it seems as if there’s a lot happening in the sky. In early February, a massive 200-foot-tall Chinese surveillance balloon was shot down after floating across the U.S. for eight days. Not even a week later, President Biden ordered American fighter jets to shoot down three more “unidentified aerial phenomena.”

The Pentagon’s new office for investigating potential UFOs has seen a steep rise in sightings. A recent report had 510 UFO reports at the end of August 2022, compared to just 144 reports in June 2021.

The report doesn’t mention “aliens.” (As if they’d actually tell us.) But that doesn’t mean people aren’t speculating, hoping to catch an unmoving extraterrestrial cloud like in Jordan Peele’s Nope.

Most of the objects in the report were unremarkable objects, like balloons and drones. But they’re catching our attention, nonetheless. Our national obsession with UFO sightings is turning eyes to the sky. For you next campaign, get your client’s message in the air where it will be seen.
