Promo pros attending the 2023 Product Responsibility Summit were greeted with a suite of sustainable products that exemplify the values, issues and materials covered during the three-day event.

Minnesota-based supplier Storm Creek, a leader in bringing recycled polyester fibers to the promo apparel industry, supplied its Maverick Button-Up pullover, decorated with the event’s flaming bicycle logo embroidered on the left upper sleeve. The waffle-weave pullover, lined with jersey, proved popular in the chilly conference hall.

“It is very comfortable, super soft inside, and it’s definitely keeping me toasty. I love that it’s recycled, and it seems very durable,” said Jaymee Digman, an escalation and resolutions specialist and sustainability team member with HALO, the No. 2 PPAI 100 distributor.

Each women’s pullover contains polyester from 14 recycled plastic bottles and comes in six colors and sizes XS-3X. Each men’s garment contains polyester from 14 recycled plastic bottles and comes in five colors and sizes S-3X.

To help attendees take notes, Goldstar, the No. 16 supplier in the PPAI 100, provided a notebook and a new pen from their recycled product line. The Reborn Recycled Aluminum Pen features a barrel made with recycled aluminum and laser-engraved with the conference logo, accented by a renewable bamboo plunger and gunmetal stainless steel clip assembled with a clear rPET surround. The 0.7 mm fine ballpoint provides a smooth and reliable writing experience.

The Carson Recycled PU Leather Notebook features a hard cover made from 75% recycled leather and 25% plastic and emblazoned with the event’s flaming bicycle icon. The 80 lined interior pages are made from renewable, recycled paper, and the journal also has a ribbon marker, elastic strap and pen loop to keep the Reborn pen handy.

The conference, carbon-neutral thanks to carbon offset sponsor 4imprint, relied on reusable drinkware like ceramic coffee cups instead of single-use disposable ones. In that same vein, attendees also received an h2go nexus insulated tumbler from ETS Express to take home. The matte black 16.9 oz double wall stainless steel thermal tumbler features copper vacuum insulation and a threaded lid, snap closure and powder coated finish featuring the flaming bicycle. The tumblers also come in navy or white.

All these goodies were packed into a gray Topo Design Daypack Classic backpack from Spector & Co., the No. 47 PPAI 100 supplier, which were quickly seen on the backs of attendees as they moved between sessions and networking. The durable bag, made of recycled nylon inside and out, features a chartreuse interior with a laptop compartment and two compartments for storage. The exterior features two side water bottle pockets, a top carry handle, contoured padded shoulder straps, a leather lash tab (for carabiner attachments) and a loop for carrying other tools. Available in four colors.

Chris Pearson, MAS, vice president of Spector & Co., says the annual Summit is a great way to build enthusiasm for product safety, compliance and sustainability efforts.

“This is a great forum to share information with like-minded individuals,” he said. “It’s a good recharge every year, because usually you’re swimming upstream in your own corporation, so to come sit in a room with all kinds of like-minded individuals recharges the batteries a bit and gets you going.”
