Communicorp, a Columbus, Georgia-based distributor, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall of plush Aflac “Doctor Ducks” due to a violation of the federal lead content ban.

The recall involves the six-inch Aflac promotional Doctor Duck, a white plush item with yellow beak and feet, dressed in a white lab coat with buttons and a stethoscope. “Aflac” is printed on the front of the duck’s lab coat. The plush ducks were distributed directly to Aflac employees and licensed agents from January 2005 through July 2020 and distributed as a promotional giveaway item to customers.

The plush ducks are being recalled due to buttons on the lab coat worn by the Doctor Duck, which contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content standard. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. The recall affects approximately 635,500 units, although no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately dispose of the recalled plush Doctor Duck. Communicorp is contacting Aflac employees and licensed agents who purchased the Doctor Duck directly. Consumers can contact Communicorp at 800-642-3522, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm ET, or online at communicorp.com and click on “Recall” at the bottom of the page for more information.
